I know that what you're saying makes sense, but I still can't help thinking that I should have done more.

Feel like I've failed
by Mr Negative ini need to get this off my chest, as i don't have many people to talk to about it who would understand.. i feel like i've failed my family, as not only have i been unable to get my parents and brother to see sense regarding the cult, but now my sister, who never got baptised but managed to escape twenty years ago, is now seriously considering going back for various "emotional" reasons, and i know that she won't listen to me.. i know they have all made their own decisions (at least, to the extent that brainwashed people can make their own decisions), and i can't really blame myself (even though i was the one who, when only ten years old, convinced my mum to listen to the poor lady on the doorstep out of politeness rather than just shut the door on her - so it is all indirectly my fault), but it still feels like i've failed them..

Witness weddings
by dothemath inrecently went to a witness wedding, and after the vows the bride and groom were introduced as "brother and sister".....(then last name).....(then the big kiss).
this is likely not unusual (i've heard it before), but with lots of "worldly" people in attendance it seems out of place to me.. i was just wondering if that's the way it is most places?.

When my brother got married in the UK last March, "Brother and Sister..." was used. I, and a few other non-JWs, just found it funny rather than weird. But it does take away from the supposedly serious moment somewhat.

Looking for a Book on Evolution
by Saethydd ini am wondering if anyone is aware of a book or series of videos designed to explain evolution to creationists, (specifically the jw strain of creationism if possible) without being patronizing or overly confrontational.
i would like to have something to recommend to people who challenge evolution, but i know that the sources which convinced me would turn most of them off because of the confrontational and at times condescending tone in which it's presented.. some examples of what i'm looking for would be someone who doesn't claim evolution is a fact until after they have presented all of the evidence that makes it a fact and also have addressed as many counter-arguments as possible..

One of the best, and easiest to understand, is "Why Evolution Is True" by Jerry Coyne. If you come away from reading that book and still don't agree that evolution is true, then you are lying.

Who was/is the promised Messiah ? Jesus or Immanuel
by smiddy inin isaiah 7:14 "therefore jehovah himself will give you men a sign look the maiden herself will actually become pregnant and she is giving birth to a son and she will certainly call his name immanuel".
this scripture is attributed to the virgin birth of jesus from his mother mary to become the messiah.
the problem is the name of the messiah isnt jesus its immanuel .

What you need to know is that the scripture in Isaiah isn't even a prophecy about a Messiah. It has been taken out of context to make it look like a prophecy (which is useless anyway, due to the name issue that you have mentioned). Keep reading and you will see that the child referred to is born just a few scriptures later, and he still isn't called Immanuel even then!

Whats the problem?
by eyeuse2badub inlike the noah of old, (as described in the bible), are modern day jw’s just poor teachers?
i mean, noah, and i assume his family, preached for decades prior to the “deluge”.
they were “clearly” or “evidently” poor at convincing their contemporaries that a ‘flood’ was a comin’.

Just so you know, the account in Genesis makes no mention of Noah preaching. In fact, the implication is there that Noah and his family are the only ones who have been chosen to survive form the start, so there would be no need of preaching. The idea that Noah was a "preacher" comes quite erroneously from a scripture in the New Testament and has no basis in the original story.

Big news from Kim and Mikey, they state in thier latest video proof the WT invested in the Nazi war machine!!
by Crazyguy inthis is big!
according to what they say if i'm correct an investigation was done back in 1998 in concerning what american companies invested money in to germany.
mike and kim state that a document they have attained shows a list of american firms that had invested into germany as late as 1943. on this list is non other then watchtower !!

Mike and Kim are always doing things like this, and unfortunately, this is why JWs can get away with saying apostates are liars or mistaken. They need to learn to fact-check, think critically, and not just put out any and every bit of gossip they hear. This sort of nonsense does more harm than good when trying to assist JWs to see the real problems with the cult they are involved in. I believe they have good intentions, but they just don't have good enough investigative abilities, and should always err on the side of caution rather than jump too quickly to put out false information.

I recently came home one day to find some crappy leaflet, entitled "Do you want to know the truth?" posted through my door.
